Trying to capitalise on the good weather, we vacated the motherland (Wales) and headed south towards Dorset in the diesel steed. We booked to stay in the New Inn, a traditional English heritage listed pub in West Knighton with some cosy (and affordable) accommodation around the back.
The weekend highlight was exploring Lulworth Cove and strolling west via Stair Hole and St Oswald’s Bay toward Durdle Door. I’d recommend tight shorts or jeans on the Lulworth Steps for anyone who likes chafing.
Durdle Door was stunning. The pièce de résistance, clear blue skies and crystal water. An attention seeking seal parked itself up on the beach, but people seemed more interested in the ongoing coastguard rescue.
Pros – They snagged a free helicopter ride and a front row seat on Durdle Door’s aerial tour.
Cons – They got dragged out by the rip and could have drowned.
If you look closely at the photo, you’ll see the coastguard photobombing the seal!
